Newton Recreation Center Our History
The Building was built in 1938 to serve as the combined Newton-Ransom Highschool. In 1964 the high school merged with Abington Heights School District and at that time became the Newton-Ransom Elementary School until 1996 when the new school was built next to the Abington Heights Middle School.
The existing building was turned over to Newton Township and within the year became what is now known as the Newton Recreation Center.
Since its inception in 1997 the building has served as a source for the local Abington recreational sports teams, provided community activities for the area and has housed a local Day Care / PreSchool.
Additions to the facility since opening to the public include the expanded soccer / playing field, walking track, new playground, a Fitness Center within the building along with a History Room showcasing historical items and classes that had attended the High-School.
